I just found this great tutorial on one of my regular read blogs that I thought everyone should read... I am one of those people who is a bit scared of sewing with knits, but this tute made me think that maybe I should give it another go.
Go here to Indietutes and have a look for yourself... It all sounds so easy!

Interesting reading.
Personally, I've never had a problem sewing with knits. I did an awful lot of it while my kids were little.
The lovely lady who tried to teach me to sew (still don't reckon I'm a seamstress and my grandmother would agree if she were still alive!) taught me two things that helped immensely.
One - which Indietutes mentions... use a ball point needle.
Two - pin your fabric from the side ensuring the sharp edge of the pin faces toward the edge. That way you can sew your garment without removing the pins and your material won't shift. You'll use more pins, but it's worth the effort.
I do like to put my knits onto the overlocker. Probably because I'm very oldfashioned and don't like raw edges. If you set your overlocker up correctly the material will not shift or stretch.

Yeah, when you showed me to pin my fabric from the side like that it made a huge difference! But I do still have a knit problem... I am a religious overlocker... (in fact, I won't sew garments without an overlocker) but I found it hard to overlock knits without my fabric stretching... I am itching to try again as I do love knit garments.
