Flying high

Our faith in flying is restored.  A couple of wee adjustments to the sling set up and this 8 hour flight (Dubai - Manila) we ended up with two lovely 40 minute naps, some good eating and with little chick spending the rest of his time trawling up and down the aisles with me or with my chicco and charming the pants off folks here and there.

It FELT like a long flight, particularly that time period of trying to feed him fruits from a jar between my legs whilst seated in the gap between our seats and the bulkhead on the floor, while my chicco ate dinner in first shift, but I smiled and realized we would be unwelcome in Business anyway so this was pretty good space!

Here in Manila and the little chick is zonked after a day of walking EVERYWHERE with his cousins and running from the Jack Russell to avoid kisses (and perhaps avoiding 50% of them).  His cousins have been working for weeks on  a whole toy corner for him with padded flooring, more noise-making toys than even our little Greek baby upstairs has, and are content to help me with fruit cutting, formula container filling, introducing small boys to grass and cuddling and tickling.  It's so lovely to be able to relax my duty a little wee bit and to know he's still enjoying himself immensely and being so thoroughly entertained.

HUGE grin all day.  Sore cheeks for the wee thing!

Excellent! It sounds ever so adventurous and lots of fun too! How did you get Chickie to sleep ... you mention a sling? Was he strapped to you in baby Bjorn? Just curious obviously, trying to think how in Gods name we're going to get our Chickie to sleep on that very, very long flight to UK.

Hello lovely,
Yes, I had the Baby Bjorn sling and attempted having him facing me the first flight, which was unsuccessful as his legs were all cramped up in the bulkhead row where you can't move the armrests up beside you as in other seats.
So on the second leg I attempted him sleeping on me facing outwards, just holding his little hands and he dropped off happily and slept his normal (short) naps.
I did resort to a soundless 'Aristocats' movie for the second nap which worked a charm.
They do seem to love playing with the radio/tv controller too.... it does extend in such a fun way - like a vacuum cleaner cord!

Do give a shout if you have any other questions.

OOh, that sounds like a great toy! And yes, although Chickie is not allowed any 'viewing' time at present I intend to fully utilise all options on the plane, if she embraces it!
I don't have a baby Bjorn but have an Ergo carrier (they face you) so will have to see how that pans out. I need her to sleep for at least 10 hours solidly ... :) yeah right, ok, perhaps I am dreaming!!
Anyway, keep having fun, and enjoy all the help with the little guy, it's so nice when there are others around to lend a hand isn't it.

Hi NMC
I hear you on the television viewing - I am finding I have absolutely no idea what's going on in the wider world (aside from my SMH updates) as our tv is never on any more until N goes to bed. When his Granny and Honey were visiting they did introduce him to Fantasia, which is a lovely old classic and really enjoyed the music and dancing broomsticks and such!
I read that it limits their imagination so I'm doing lots of listening and singing and reading.
It's wonderful for me too!

I'm sure you can adapt with the Ergo carrier - I think so long as they're comfortable it is a winner.
